I am so excited to be a trainee in the 2013-2014 Arizona LEND program. This experience will give me the unique opportunity to cultivate my leadership, professional, and research skills in an interdisciplinary environment. My clinical experiences have inspired me to specialize in pediatric audiology. I am also especially interested in learning how to provide health care services to rural, underserved, and ethnically diverse communities. I look forward to learning from and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of maternal and child health professionals.
Brittany Dowling, AuD
My participation in the AZLEND training program is a unique opportunity to develop and cultivate my leadership skills and collaborate with other trainees and healthcare professionals whose common interest is the health and well-being of children and their families. I will benefit from the value of an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare and services for children with disabilities and in underserved communities, while also cultivating my skills as a future leader in my professional field.
Breanna Reed, BS
Throughout my education, I have had many opportunities to work with children with disabilities such as Down's Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder. During this time, I developed a passion for working with children with developmental disabilities. My goal is to work as a pediatric audiologist where I have the opportunity to interact with children with developmental disabilities. The AZLEND Training Program can provide me with the skills and knowledge to benefit each individual patient as well as the community.
Benjamin Smith, AuD
The AZLEND program will expand my knowledge of neurodevelopmental disabilities which in turn will allow me to provide comprehensive hearing services for individuals with developmental disabilities. It is important for me to gain in-depth understanding of how allied professionals in other disciplines manage clients with developmental challenges and how audiologists can work with and refer to other professions in order to provide clients and their families with meaningful treatment.
Kathryn Hope, AuD
My clinical experience in audiology has led to an interest in pediatrics and as a pediatric audiologist I will provide care to children and adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders. The University of Arizona LEND program will provide me with the training and education necessary to serve this population. I am an extern at the Caliber Center for Communication Disorders at The University of Texas at Dallas.
