Lauren Renken

Lauren Renken is a third-year audiology doctorate student at the University of Arizona. She received her Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders from New Mexico State University. Lauren is currently working on her Doctorate Project, research the accuracy of an automated hearing testing system. She is very passionate about pediatric audiology we well as educational audiology. Lauren is enthusiastic to learn about maternal and child care through participating in ArizonaLEND’s multidisciplinary team.

Emily Leedy

Emily Leedy is a third-year audiology doctorate student at the University of Arizona. She received her bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders at the University of Florida. She is passionate about working with children with hearing loss, as Emily grew up with a hearing loss herself. Emily is excited to move back to Florida to start her externship working with children and adults. Emily hopes to use her time as a LEND trainee to be able to learn how to build relationships with professionals in other fields and collaborate for patient care.  

Sarah Beatty

Sarah Beatty is a third-year doctorate of audiology student. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences with a minor in Human Development from Washington State University.

Kayla Ichiba

Kayla Ichiba is a third year audiology doctorate student at the University of Arizona. She received her Bachelors of Science in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences from the University of Arizona. Kayla is a research assistant in the Arizona Human Electrophysiology Auditory Development Lab, conducting research on binaural processes using auditory evoked potentials. She is also a part of the Arizona Sonoran Border Project team. This non-governmental organization provides audiologic services to the underserved region of Sonora, Mexico.

Aaron Whiteley

Aaron Whiteley is a third-year audiology doctoral student at the University of Arizona. He moved to Tucson after completing his Bachelor's degrees in Speech and Hearing Sciences and Spanish Linguistics. Since coming to Tucson, Aaron has developed a passion for delivering care to underserved communities. He has been an active participant in the Arizona Sonora Border project - a group that travels to Nogales, Sonora each month to provide hearing healthcare.

Sarah Broughton

Sarah Broughton is a third-year audiology doctoral student and rehabilitation counseling minor at the University of Arizona. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Art in Communication Disorders and minors in Deaf Studies and International Relations from the State University of New York at New Paltz. During the course of her graduate education, she has developed a passion for aural rehabilitation as well as pediatric and educational audiology.

Athena Luong

Athena Luong is a third year audiology doctoral student and rehabilitation counseling minor at the University of Arizona. She graduated with a B.A. in Criminology, Law, and Society and a minor in Psychology and Social Behavior from UC Irvine. She also has a post-baccalaureate degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from Portland State University. Athena has always had a passion for pediatrics and is working towards a career as a pediatric audiologist following graduation in 2020.

Julie Thein

Julie is a third year audiology doctoral student and rehabilitation counseling minor at the University of Arizona.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a minor in Special Education from the Pennsylvania State University.  She has always had an interest in pediatrics and wants to work as a pediatric audiologist following graduate school.  She currently is one of the program assistants for the Protect Your Ears Program, which focuses on educating children in after-school programs about the importance of protecting their hearing.  As a LEND tr

Jessie Penkoff

Jessie Penkoff is a third year graduate student in audiology at the University of Arizona.  She graduated with a B.S. in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and a minor in Special Education and Rehabilitation from the University of Arizona in 2015. During the course of her graduate education, she has developed a passion for community outreach and services awareness within the realm of hearing intervention. As an ArizonaLEND fellow, she hopes to improve her leadership skills and build a strong foundation for future inter-disciplinary care.
