I have been practicing nursing for 35 years, 32 of those years in the NICU and 20 years as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. It has been my passion to care for the smallest and most fragile of patients and their families. I now split my time working in the Banner NICU and the Newborn Developmental Clinic at the Children’s Multi-Specialty Clinic in Tucson, AZ. I work with an interdisciplinary team that follows our NICU graduates until the age of three years, as well as assessing community referrals for children under three years with developmental delays and suspected autism.

I am excited to be part of the LEND program. I have been in the nursing field for the last twenty years and recently moved into a pediatric outpatient clinic with a focus on children with special healthcare needs. I will apply what I learn in LEND to enhance my leadership skills for our patients, families, and staff. I look forward to gaining knowledge In neurodevelopmental disabilities and early detection so we can provide early interventions. I was inspired to learn more about Autism because of my friend and mentor who has a son with autism.

Through the AZLEND program, I am excited to further develop my leadership and advocacy skills in care approaches for children with disabilities. Nursing has given me the tools needed not only to care for patients, but also to empower them and their family through education and knowledge. My previous experience has afforded me with a unique understanding of issues in healthcare from the perspective of a researcher, a patient, and a service provider that I feel will present me with the ability to consider questions or issues from all points of view when learning new concepts in this program
